Earlier, there were reports that Cellular service may shut down on election day, but cellular services will not be suspended today. After the intervention by Interior Minister Malik Habib, over a ban imposed by Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) on mobile services in Sindh, mobile service would remain open every city of the country on Election Day (Today). Owing to security threats on polling day (today), Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) had decided to close mobile phone service from 8.00 pm Friday to 5.00 pm on Saturday, but it later had to reverse its decision.
The Caretaker Interior Minister interfered and asked the PTA to withdraw its notification, saying it is his discretion to issue such notices, if needed. The ministry of Interior has not taken any decision so far regarding closure of mobile service in any part of the country, said a spokesman of the Ministry of Interior on Friday.
However in case of any emergency or extra ordinary situation, to maintain law and order, the ministry may suspend this service in specific constituency, he added. He contradicted this news appearing in some news channels that the mobile service would remain close in some areas of Sindh province on Saturday.
